My daughter needed this lens to improve her photography and is extremely happy with it. This was purchased as a Christmas present. It was what she wanted and needed and is using it and loving it.
Overall I'm very satisfied with it. Even with that's only slightly dim, like that of a cloudy day for example, causes the photos to sometimes be blurred because the lens is long and heavy, so small movement can cause blurring. My only gripe is that I wish it had a stabilizer. It's an extremely good lens for the price, that's for sure. I didn't buy this lens from Amazon but I do own it. It's a great telephoto lens and I've been really happy with the picture quality. It isn't impossible to use without a tripod, though.
I take pictures of my kids' soccer games. The lens was everything I had hoped it would be. It allows me to get up close and personal and gives me great action shots.
It's just that to fit in my camera case well this must be attached and in most cases I need to remove it and grab my other lens to take a picture. I can't complain too much since it was free. Don't let this review deter you from buying it, I just had to put my two cents in. I got it free with my new camera, but I wish I sold it and bought a 55-250mm with IS or a 18-200mm with IS. They are much more expensive, but I hate having to remove it to put on a 18-55mm IS lens for indoor or closer range things. Not a bad lens, but you may get annoyed when you want to switch back and forth like me.
Anyway, I got what I expected, and again, I am happy. I do not have any complain about the picture quality so far, I just wanted to see what 300mm is like, and its definitely a different world, and I am happy to know that. So here it is. My standard zoom lens has standard motor and its slow and noisy. I have EOS Revel T1i, and very very beginner. That being said: I have 10-22mm ultra-wide, and 18-55mm standard zoom, and they are both fine, but I just wanted a lens that goes above 55mm. USM is pretty nice too, so you may want to spend a few more bucks on it to get it.
